As part of our commitment to helping people bring order to their chaotic work and home life, Downshifting – Professional Organizing Solutions and Professional Organizers in Canada (POC) (www.organizersincanada.com) gives back to the community by providing an army of organizers during NOWeek. Our national community service project is held every year in May. Local professional organizers partner up with a charity or not-for-profit organization and organize a large work area or office.

In 2006 members of POC throughout Canada helped the Canadian Red Cross Organize their emergency response, storage and office space.

In 2007 members of the POC will partner with Habitat for Humanity – The ReStore. On April 30th we will go into the Re-Store and help the employees, organize their back office, label the different sections and generally organize the retail space. Giving Back to You
Downshifting also provided fundraising packages for charities and non-for-profit organizations. In the last year, Downshifting donated packages to St. Paul’s Catholic School, Masonville Public School, The London Ski Club, Alex’s Butterfly Garden Foundation www.alexsbutterflygarden.com , The Little Star’s Benefit supporting St. Joseph’s Neonatal Care Unit and The Grand Theatre Gala and Silent Auction in London.

Giving Back – Corporate Clients
Take the time to give back to others in need. Businesses can give back to the community by donating your surplus print material (out of date letter head, envelopes or binders), furnishings or even printer cartridges.

Schools, daycare centers and not-for-profit organizations such as Girl Guides and Girl Scouts of Canada are always looking for supplies. Downshifting will help you dispose of the surplus and pass it on to those that may need these items.

What can you recycle?

  • Paper – coloured or with some print (i.e. letterhead, envelopes)
  • Folders
  • Binders
  • Supplies – pens with company logos, pencils, staplers
  • Computer paper, printer cartridges


Giving Back – Residential Clients
Residential clients can also give back to those in need. As part of our extensive disposal services, Downshifting will remove items from your home that can be passed on to others. This unique service is available to all our residential clients.
Working together with community groups such as Clothing Works (work clothes seeking a second life for people re-entering the workforce); London Mission Services, (helping men and women in need), Canadian Diabetes Association providing home-pick up service for larger items or simply donation delivery to the local Goodwill or St. Vincent de Paul stores.
